Take the points and run.

UGA LogoAre you kidding me? (10) UGA is giving up 14.5 to (22) Vandy? No doubt, the Dawgs will win, and it may not be close, but I think it is a stretch to think that UGA will route the Commodores by, say, 17 points.

Georgia never wins big against Vanderbilt. Or do they? Recently maybe not, but look at the history in the series over the last eight years.

  • 2007: 20-17
  • 2006: 22-24 (L)
  • 2005: 34-17
  • 2004: 33-3
  • 2003: 27-8
  • 2002: 48-17
  • 2001: 30-14
  • 2000: 29-19

Against better judgment, I say lay the points:   Georgia 33 – Vanderbilt 17.

Go Dawgs! Sic ’em!

  1. Being a born and raised west coast pro-sports fanatic, recently transplanted into college town USA, I’m not sure I’m qualified to rate the play of the school yard kids – but I am going to call a runaway victory by Ursa the Magic Dog and Co. over the Vandy pretenders. I’m willing to go out on a limb here and say that based on the raw stats and talent this season, Vandy (the most over-rated team in contention) had a wake up call last week – and a scheduled funeral service this week. GA looks flat out tough, assuming you can ignore the complete ass whooping they took the first half from the 45th smartest state in the country. With a one-man wrecking crew for a running attack that’s going to split the Vandy D like a pair of aces on a Vegas table, and capable defense looking to regain some lost respect when they allowed more scoring in the first half of “the game” than a Friday night outside Clark County Nevada, I can’t see the Bulldogs winning by less than 17. All I have to say is it will be a fitting end to the Cinderella season of Vanderbilt when the clock strikes midnight, and the glass slipper falls off.

With this said, to be honest, I don’t know how this is the top story this week. What a load. Saturday night could be for all intents and purposes the fate of the National Championship team as the Longhorns look to put an end to Misery, and own the top spot. A win this weekend would bring the real possibility of an undefeated season within grasp. Aside from having two inter-state games left in the schedule, which is always a coin toss, I don’t see any other real matchup left in the schedule that should present a real challenge. Again, I understand “any given Sunday” (or Saturday in the case of the kids), but it within reach none-the-less. I haven’t seen this team look this good since Cry Baby Young led them to glory just a few short years ago, yet they get no play on the highlight reels. Look for them in the title game, and if your big G fan – bring some tissues. I think the Dogs will be playing for a win in the Tidy-Bowl this year.

  2. Nice take on the Dawgs and poor old “we all hope they get six wins but not against us” Vandy.

Who said anything about Dawgs/Vandy being the biggest story in town this week? I have some Long Horns on my mind, but other things have gotten in the way of posting.
