There are several events that I look forward to each year, and two of them happen to occur today: The Monaco Grand Prix, and the Indianapolis 500. If you throw in the Coca Cola 600, you have one hell of a day of racing. Something like 9 hours of back-to-back racing fun. Throw some good meat on the grill, pop open a can (or bottle) of two of some cold ones, and the makings are there for a wonderful racing day.

Never heard of the Coca Cola 600. Isn’t there a NASCAR event every week?
There must not be that much of an overlap between Indy and NASCAR is there?
Or for that matter, American racing and F1?
Well unless you’re a racing junkie watching all of them on the Speed channel or something.
Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway is one of NASCAR’s crown jewels – along with the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400. Three great NASCAR races. Yes, they race almost every weekend.
Monaco GP started at 8AM EST; finished around 10AM. Indy 500 does not start until 1PM (not sure exactly what time the green flag will drop). Coca-Cola 600 will not start until 5PM or so.
Speed (Monaco), ABC (Indy 500), and Fox (Coke) carry the races. Yes, a great day if you are a race fan. Not to be outdone, I just got in my fifth run in eight days.
