{"id":1131,"date":"2008-02-11T20:11:30","date_gmt":"2008-02-12T01:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calvertgames.com\/cgblog\/2008\/02\/11\/blu-monday\/"},"modified":"2008-02-11T20:11:30","modified_gmt":"2008-02-12T01:11:30","slug":"blu-monday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.calvertgames.com\/cgblog\/2008\/02\/11\/blu-monday\/","title":{"rendered":"Blu Monday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two more significant wins for Blu-ray were reported today by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blu-ray.com\" onclick=\"__gaTracker('send', 'event', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.blu-ray.com', 'blu-ray.com');\" target=\"new\">blu-ray.com<\/a> (and I am sure many other sites.<\/p>\n<p>First, Best Buy will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blu-ray.com\/news\/?id=950\" onclick=\"__gaTracker('send', 'event', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.blu-ray.com\/news\/?id=950', 'officially recommend');\" target=\"new\">officially recommend<\/a> Blu-ray over HD DVD:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Brian Dunn, Best Buy\u2019s president and chief operating officer commented, \u201cConsumers have told us that they want us to help lead the way. We\u2019ve listened to our customers, and we are responding. Best Buy will recommend Blu-ray as the preferred format. Our decision to shine a spotlight on Blu-ray Disc players and other Blu-ray products is a strong signal to our customers that we believe Blu-ray is the right format choice for them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Second, Netflix will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blu-ray.com\/news\/?id=947\" onclick=\"__gaTracker('send', 'event', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.blu-ray.com\/news\/?id=947', 'exclusively');\" target=\"new\">exclusively<\/a> carry Blu-ray:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix commented, \u201cThe prolonged period of competition between two formats has prevented clear communication to the consumer regarding the richness of the high-def experience versus standard definition. We are now at the point where the industry can pursue the migration to a single format, bring clarity to the consumer and accelerate the adoption of high-def. Going forward, we expect that all of the studios will publish in the Blu-ray format and that the price points of high-def DVD players will come down significantly.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Blu-ray is going to propel the PS3 forward.  Some would say kicking and screaming, but the situation is no longer dire for Sony.
