Final Madden 10 Roster Update

I have not spent any time with Madden 10 this week, but I will have to jump online today to pull down the latest (and perhaps final) Madden 10 roster updates.

In one final act of sticking it to the Falcons, Tony G. is the only Falcon to receive a ratings change:

Tony Gonzalez TE ATL Decrease, from 99 to 98OVR

Not only did Gonzalez get screwed out of the Pro Bowl, he also gets docked a ratings point. I guess if he was not injured in the final game against Tampa Bay, and would have caught four passes instead of three, 1000 career receptions would have saved a point.

Preorder Madden 11 – Get $20 Gift Card at Wal-Mart

This morning I was responding to some propaganda spam from EA; this year you get to vote for the Madden 11 cover athlete. I voted so I would get a chance to win the 2010 draft day package; that would be an awesome prize to win!

Following the Madden 11 pre-order link takes you to a Wal-Mart deal where you get a $20 gift card. I have never ordered games from Wal-Mart, so I have no idea how they stack up to amazon – do you get games on release day, how much is shipping, etc. I am not even sure that I will order Madden 11 (yeah, right) because for once I think the current version can hold me over for a while. I showed will power and did not order NCAA Football 10 (that franchise has become garbage) so there is a precedent.

MUT – Cards from Heaven

Hmmm … I had to pack it in early from work today. A family emergency came up and I had to get home to take care of the kids; saying some prayers that everything turns out fine. Thankfully videogames offer us a nice diversion and temporary escape from real life.

I loaded up Madden 10 to check on my MUT auctions to see if I made a further dent in my march towards 1500 coins and my next Silver pack. I know; small potatoes to the experts, but I understand my limits.

Imagine my surprise that magically I had a Legendary Playoff Drew Brees card. MUT cards from Heaven? What sort of server mess up could cause such an issue? EA had schedule maintenance at 2PM EST, so I figured that a goof up was in order, but it looks like the Brees card was a free gift as part of the “Madden Ultimate Team 100k Challenge.”

This card’s coin value is listed at 1000, but on the PS3 the Legendary Playoff Drew Brees card is already being sold at low, low prices. I’ll probably keep the card around for another week or so and see if the prices go back up.

It was funny to plug in Brees and see my rating go from 73 to 80; tempting.

MUT Week One

It is obvious I suck at Madden 10 when given a serious disadvantage (i.e. a 62-64 rated team). It almost sounds contradictory saying these words (long suffering Falcons fans can relate), but there is a big difference in the 83 rated Madden 10 Falcons and subpar franchises like the Lions, Buccaneers, and Raiders. Playing with my poorly implemented GA TX Falcons collection of misfit cards is light years away from using the Atlanta Falcons.

Over the course of this week I have watched my Madden IQ plummet as the losses mounted. Saturday I finally decided enough was enough, so I took some corrective actions. First, I opted to switch to the “my skill” setting. My thinking was this would make things a little fairer since I am currently stuck in a complete swirl of suck. Second, I changed the camera angle from “standard” to the “wide” view. I am not a big fan the wide view in Madden 10; it seems too far away from the action, but on offense it does give me a better opportunity to see how the corners are playing my wide-outs. Finally, I decided to [cough, cough] buy a pack of Gold cards for $0.99.

The glory of a Gold pack made all the difference, as my team immediately improved from a 62 rating to a splendid 71. High cotton baby!

Thanks to the likes of Chris Johnson, straight away I picked up wins over the Buccaneers, Raiders, and the Bears. Technically on my first game out of the gate with my reinforced Gold lineup, I got disconnected. This sucked beyond all belief! Not only did the starters get docked a contract, but I had no opportunity to earn any coins. In other words, through no fault of my own, I got royally screwed.

By winning those games, and by making some decent coins in auction, I managed to purchase my Silver pack (1500 coins), which further supplemented my team. So for one weekend I was able to be a little bit better than dirt poor, but I am not really sitting pretty in the cat bird seat. I only have 800 or so coins, along with a mountain of cards that are about to expire in 2-4 games, including most of the players from the magnificent Gold pack, so I am going to have to make some difficult decisions.

The way I see it, I have three options. First, purchase more cards with “real” money. Second, purchase some contract cards. Third, sell enough players via auction to supplement future packs and cards.

The “real” money part is obvious. So far I have spent $0.99, and while I am not proud of the fact that I suck so bad at Madden 10 that I had to buy a bailout, it did make a huge difference in my performance.  Instead of sucking, I can actually win a game or three.  Plus I no longer want to throw a controller at the TV!

In my opinion the contract cards are not worth the coin investment because you get a contract card with the the purchase of Bronze, Silver, and Gold packs (at least I did based on my limited experience with Silver and Gold packs). I seriously doubt I will go in this direction unless I have some coins burning a hole in my pocket with a “cannot lose” this card about to expire. Besides, at the time of this article, I have two contract cards in hand.

My strategy for Bronze cards is fairly simple. These cards are fairly cheap, and very replaceable, so there is not much point in holding onto them unless they are at the top end of the Bronze scale. I have a handful of 70 rated cards; these cards are cheap to maintain from week-to-week. For the rest, I typically sell them in auction because I figure earning a few coins for a card is better than wasting the contract. Most of the Bronze cards have earned me 35-85 coins (and higher) without trying hard to really work the system, so I consider these sells nice bonus that help to supplement my incoming new packs.

Speaking of new packs, I would much rather be in a position where I am flipping Silver players and Silver packs, but I am not there yet. As cards expire, I doubt I will have the luxury of getting back to Silver pack territory (1500 coins) before I have to infuse my team with another pack of cards. As these cards leave my deck, I expect my rating to once again plummet, but such is life with MUT. These decisions are an enjoyable part of the game.

Daily Dose of MUT – First Five Days

I am on a 2 game losing skid (Cleveland and Tampa Bay – yikes!), my team rating has dropped to 63, and my chemistry continues to plummet, typically hovering anywhere from 39-45. I am about to have 2-6 contracts expire, and I only have 397 coins in the bank.

Prior to MUT, I had not really played Madden 10 for weeks, so I am just now getting re-acclimated to the game. When I did play, it was always offline, and always with the Falcons (a low 80’ish rated team). The bottom line is that I am struggling with my 63-64 rated GA TX Falcons (pro skill level), but I am having fun.

As soon as I finish off another offline game on pro, I will once again have enough coins to pick up another Bronze pack, which will once again replenish my depleted team. My only issue here is that Silver packs are out of reach. By the time I get to 1500 coins, even with some use of the auction house, I may not be able to field a team, which makes saving for a Silver pack unreasonable.

After a week into this adventure I can so that it is possible to sustain a team without throwing real money at the game, but it begs the question – “is this really fun?”

I’ll answer my previous question by saying yes, however I wish I could earn enough coins to actually purchase a pack of Silver cards and not completely deplete my team. I could just suck it up and pay – $0.25 per Bronze pack, $0.50 per Silver pack, and $0.99 per Gold pack. All perfectly reasonable, and of course this is where EA hopes they can earn a few more dollars. In fact, I bet EA has a gold mine going thanks to MUT.

I came close to “funding” my team with real money last night, and to be perfectly honest I probably will over the weekend just so I can once again see what Madden is like with at least a 70’ish rated team.

Madden Ultimate Team Contracts

I mentioned earlier that I was not sure if cards disappeared from your deck once their contracts hit 0 games remaining. I ran across this MUT FAQ earlier this morning.

– It’s a good idea to have some Contract Extension Cards on hand when your player contracts start running low. If you have players that are down to a single game contract, the next time you exit a game they will expire.

– At that point, you’ll be asked to extend the contract before the player is removed from your team. If you are out of contract cards at that point, you’ll lose the player whose contract has expired.

That sort of makes sense; you can wait until the bitter end, but you better have enough contract extensions (of the right card type – Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc) on hand to extend anyone you want to keep around.

The FAQ also has some useful information on how team chemistry affects your overall ratings during a game.

Madden Ultimate Team Dilemma

As I write this, my GA TX Falcons are a paltry 2-4, I have ~1200 coins, and most of my original starter pack players are down to two contracts.

I did buy (with earned coins, not real money) one Bronze pack yesterday, but it was done right pathetic. The pack only amounted to two player upgrades, a d-lineman from the Carolina Panthers, and QB Josh Johnson. It is arguable that Johnson is much of an upgrade over Marc Bulger, who I received in my original starters pack. I also got a contract card, which will allow me to extend 4 Bronze players. The card will also extend some other card types, but those other types do not apply to my piss poor team!

So here I am slogging my way to my version of an “ultimate” team. I have read if you do not extend contracts, those cards “disappear” from your deck, rather than going inactive waiting to be renewed or discarded. I hope that is not the case!

At this point, without spending money, the most I can hope to accomplish is to diddle away with a 60-ish rated team. If I play two more game I will once again have enough for a Silver pack; possibly in one more game if I manage to win and get enough coins. The downside is that the vast majority of my players’ contracts will expire leaving me with a group of cards that cannot field a team.

I could buy two more Bronze packs, and hope to get some decent players that can buy me a little time on my depth chart. Based on my first experience, I doubt this route will be worthwhile, but if I get two more contract extension cards I will be able to extend around 12 cards, which means I will have a chance to continue to field a team and I will still have ~200 coins in the bank with two more games. After I play two more games, some of the contracts will expire, but I will once again have enough coins on hand to buy another Bronze pack. Hip, hip, horary! [BTW, that is sarcasm.]

Ultimate Team Ideas
Maybe if I were better at Madden 10 I would be able to earn a little more coins per game and be able to mix in a Silver pack every once in a while with my Bronze packs. That would actually be fun because my team would get a little better, and I would have a chance to get a few players that could upgrade my team and maybe even a card or two that I could flip in the auction house.  You need coins to make more coins.

Once you start, you do not get a “do over” – so if you struggle while learning the game, you are screwed. As I mentioned yesterday, I got disconnected and I decided to quit a game, which amounts to burning two (at this point) valuable contracts, and it means that I am down anywhere from 400-500 coins (or almost a Bronze pack).

It would help if Bronze cards had longer contracts, or 15-20 game contracts were included with cards from your original starter pack. Instead you start off with 10 game contracts, which does not leave any fudge factor for those of us new to the game.

It would also be nice if you could earn more points for certain statistics or milestones. Some of this compensation is already included, but it would be helpful to have more opportunities to earn more coins. Multiple sacks, interceptions, returning interceptions or kickoffs/punts for TDs, length of a play, etc. All would be opportunities to earn more coin, and the system could even be scaled to favor lower ranking teams. In other words, a 60-69 rated team would get more coins for these achievements compared to a 90+ rated team. That would help level the playing field.

Of course this is a free add-on late in Madden 10’s lifecycle. It is meant to be a cash cow (some gamers will drop a ton of money towards cards) and a proving ground for Madden 11, but it would be nice to have a few tweaks now vs. waiting for the brand new (and improved) MUT upgrade this August.

I do not care about online play, rankings, and leader boards, but I would like to have a chance to actually improve without spending real money. I think the economy of MUT may require some real money to be spent to build your foundation. I guess I will see if I crash and burn in a couple of games.

My approach will probably be to play one more game – either the Bucs or Rams, the only two teams I have beaten – and then decide if I should go with 2 Bronze packs, 3 Bronze packs, or maybe even go with a Silver pack, and spend a dollar of real money from some Bronze packs to fill out my depth charts. Lord I hope I did not just say spend real, cold hard cash.

Madden Ultimate Team – Additional comments after first few games.

My Madden Ultimate Team (MUT) pretty much sucks; still using my default starter pack team which may in some small way contribute to my awful record. I am currently 1-3, but have burned 6 contract cards. In other words, I only have enough cards left for 4 more games. That may not be entirely true, since I probably have not used all my starter set cards in all my games.

Why the discrepancy? One game I was disconnected; the server message said I would not get charged, but nonetheless I think I was still hit for a contract.

I did quit another game because halftime of the Vikings/Saints was over; I thought halftime would last longer than a regular season game, but I digress. Besides, I felt like I was getting a total cheese job from the Lions, so why waste my time to finish up such a dreadful game experience?

This brings me to another point. You know things are pretty bad with my default team when I am getting killed by the likes of the Detroit Lions. Detroit was up on my 21-0 in the first quarter with a whopping 51 seconds of total possession time. Three scores; one pick-six, one bomb where my players could not tackle the receiver, and one long run where once again my players could not tackle worth a damn. In my dotage I would do a rewind on some of these plays because I felt like they were total garbage. I do not have enough free time to feel like I am getting completely clowned by the CPU!

The one game I won was a FG fest; 9-3 against Tampa Bay. The only reason I won was because I went into completely clock management mode and attempted to protect my meager lead. This started when I was up 6-3, so that says it all!

That is not to say things are all bad; I actually like the concept and enjoy a decent (non stressful challenge). I am just not sure that I will have the patience to keep this up.

From my experience with the game, the more points you score, the less you give up and whether you win or lose the game are the biggest determining factors as to how many points you earn. Even if you lose and score 7-10 points a game, you will be rewarded with roughly 200 coins. With new card packs that include upper-echelon players costing 3,000 coins, some may find the task of building a team without resorting to spending real money a chore.

I don’t play Madden 10 online, and I don’t think I will start online MUT anytime soon, but at some point that may be better than getting beat over and over again by the CPU. Right now I am not interested in paying “real” money to upgrade my team, but if I want to be well represented online, it sounds like spending cold hard cash is the only way to survive.

Another issue is that this is obvious just a monetization effort for EA, by charging for player cards, EA stripped the skill out of this mode. All I need to do is spend $20 and I can instantly buy the Ultimate Team, which is very lame.

Where to from here? I have 1100 or so coins and most of my “good” players (OK, they are starters, but that does not make them good) only have 4 games left. Not sure what happens when you actually run out of players. I’ll either have to buy more Bronze packs, or watch my team get really bad (I can’t imagine being any worse!).

I really wanted to hold out and save for a Silver pack (1500), but I bet I end up having to go with a couple of Bronze packs (500) just to have enough players to field at each position. No doubt that Gold and Platinum packs are beyond my capabilities.

Of course MUT is only a few weeks old, but I am not sure if the developers considered the economy for average (to subpar) Madden gamers, that do not cheat, use money plays, try to trick the system, etc. I play for realistic statistics, and since I suck, I am mired in mediocrity.

Madden Ultimate Team First Impressions

At the risk of being told that I am talking to the south end of a north bound mule, or being called an EA Sports mouthpiece tool, I created my Madden Ultimate Team – “GA TX Falcons” (creatively yours, the Georgia Texas Falcons).

I have read all the negative opinions about this new “free” mode, but I find it somewhat interesting. It has the potential of being a very nice diversion. I doubt I will spend money buying cards, but I can certainly see the allure. If you are not good at Madden (raises hand), it is a little frustrating starting off with such a mediocre group of players.

After opening my starter pack, I was greeted with a piss poor group of players (and cards). I get the yucky Brown home colors when playing at the St. Louis Rams’ Edward Jones Dome, and the Redskins road whites. How bland can you get? I get a run heavy offense, and the Detroit Lions defensive play book. My team is QB’ed by none other than Marc Bulger. Jack Del Rio coaches my rag-tag set of cards.

Needless to say, the early going looks to be tough. Remember, I raised my hand when I said I was not very good at Madden? It is not as if I do not know how to play; I am just getting too old to press all the buttons in record time. I need to remember to turn off “fight for the fumble” one of these days; I never mass the buttons fast enough to win a scrum.

For my first game I took on Tampa Bay, which happens to be the default rival team for my Atlanta Falcons. I thought I was in high cotton after I took a 14-0 lead, but somehow (thanks to three turnovers) I gave up 17 unanswered points in a disappointing loss. For my second game I intentionally looked for a weak team, but still lost to the Chiefs 31-24.

The only good news is that I managed to get enough cards (just over 550 I believe) to buy a Bronze pack of cards, but I decided to wait since it was time for the start of the Jets/Colts game. BTW, the Jets just went up 14-6 with just under 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, but I digress.

It takes a lot these days to get me gaming, so it will be interesting if Ultimate Team continues to provide some appeal. I want to get in another couple of games tonight, and I have to decide if I am going to waste 500 points on some Bronze cards, or if I should just grind my way to a pack of Silver cards. At the rate I am going, I should be able to pick up a pack of Silver cards in another 3-4 games. Not sure what happens when all the contracts run out.

Monday Madden 10 Football Action

At some point over the long weekend I stumbled across some news about Madden Ultimate Team. To me this looks like a free DLC engine to take additional cash from pre-teens or anyone else addicted to collecting things; videogame related or football cards.

It has been a long time since I played Madden 10 or anything else for that matter. Yesterday I decided to fire up Madden and give it a go. I had to wait for the 1.03 Update to download, but after that I was all set. I saw the new Madden Ultimate Team in the menu, read the various tutorial screens, and backed out at the point of creating a team. Maybe next time.

I only got in two off-line games, and I have to admit that they were a ton of fun. While my gaming time has been extremely limited the last few months, and really my desire to play anything has been much diluted; right now I am an unenthusiastic gamer. However, I always enjoy spending some time with Madden.

Arizona 20 – 14 Falcons
Picked Arizona as a random team, but I guess it was a timely selection being that they just got kicked out of the playoffs. I never said I was good at Madden; in fact I downright suck. I typically play on Pro, with various settings to suit my preferences. My oldest son asked me my I don’t play on All-Madden. [sigh] I think my Madden IQ is still stuck below 500; not because I do not understand football, but because I am too damn old for this stuff now! Back to the game. I should have won, but I threw three INTs, one of which was returned for a TD. The final blow was Ryan’s third INT with about 90 seconds left as I was driving for the winning score. Three Red Zone INTs will kill you every time.

Falcons 24 – 6 Giants
Another random opponent, but this time I wanted to play on the road. Just for the hell of it I selected snow, which turned out great because it was fun watching the momentum of the players. They would slip and slide; maybe not truly realistic, but the developers did a good job of making a noticeable difference between ideal conditions and a field of snow.

Did I mention that these days I am more or less a casual gamer? For this game (thanks to the 3 INTs in the last one), I made sure I had access to the Rewind feature. Yes I suck, and yes I did rewind one TD run by the Giants, but I had the damn runner dead to rights; locked him up with two different tacklers, but to no avail. I no longer have low enough blood pressure to put up with those type of antics. Life is too short.

Yesterday afternoon the weather was so nice that we took the family for an afternoon walk. It has been nasty and cold for so long that everyone needed some quality outside time. During the walk I commented to my wife that I am going to have to somehow arrange my schedule to get in a couple of hrs of video game time a week.

So yes, my Madden day was a lot of fun.

Some random video gaming links for your reading pleasure …

The demise of a once proud franchise?
Bill Harris (Dubious Quality) on the possible demise of EA Sports NCAA Football (and possibly basketball) series:

Physics-based gameplay, an offensive style that is now common, and “authentic offensive styles of play” are possible additions to the game? WTF have you guys been developing for the last ten years? If you’ve been developing this game for ten damn years (at least) and teams aren’t ALREADY playing like they play in real life, then that’s a fail.

It would be disappointing to see the NCAA series get canned, but then again it has become rather stale. This year was the first time I completely passed up the game. EA Sports obviously has some work to do to recapture the magic and popularity of this once great franchise.

The Nintendo DS kicks core gamers in the nuts.
Eurogamer has this bit on the unexpected success of the all UK conquering Nintendo DS:

Bitter core gamers, annoyed at the invasion of their sacred domain by a host of newcomers, occasionally dismiss the DS in the same terms as they do the Wii – it’s your mother’s console, designed for the “casuals” and with nothing to appeal to real gamers. They miss the point. The DS has something for everyone, successfully filling almost every niche in the market – and it’s only by filling an enormous range of niches that a platform can ever truly become mass-market. Yes, the DS has fitness and brain training applications for the older generation, but it also has core games for the traditional market – and so much more besides. It has software for small children, for teenage girls, for language learners, for music fans, for tourists, for aspiring chefs and for everyone else in between.

Nintendo’s popularity is obviously at an all time high, and the DS (or its latest incarnation – the DSi) shows no sign of letting up anytime soon.

Holiday gift giving guide.
These things are typically a dime a dozen, but GameShark’s stand out thanks to Santa’s helper. She is very cute in a sexy sort of way, and all decked out for Christmas! I started to say that I would like to unwrap her for Christmas, but figured this is sometimes a family site.

HVB still alive and kicking
High Velocity Bowling has to be one of the better implemented motion sensor gamers on the PS3. The developers have done a damn good job of keeping the game fresh with cheap DLC (usually $0.99 a pop). If I break out my PS3 anytime soon for something other than movie watching, I am sure that HVB will get turn or two.

Sony slims down losses
An article that kotaku.com picked up shows that Sony is still taking a loss on the PS3 Slim. $37 per console sold adds up after a while. Prorated over 10 years (you know, the Sony lifetime achievement console plan) and things do not sound so gloom and doom for Sony after all. I should be a spin doctor.

Happy rainy Saturday!

Madden 2010 Fun

I have not played Madden in the last few days (actually probably the last couple of weeks since Falcons football actually started … whatever). I found myself at home today watching the kids, and since the youngest boy was asleep I decided to get in some Madden playtime.

First up I had to download the latest patch. I did not pay attention to what version it was, so I am not sure how many times the game has been patched. I did go online just so I could get the latest, greatest rosters, which as a Falcons fan sort of sucks since Harry Douglas (WR) and Peria Jerry (DT) are IR fodder.

I decided to take on Farve and the Minnesota Vikings. Mainly because my kids love Farve, and partly because I have not played them in this year’s version of the game. Adrian Peterson run the all over me. He killed me on the opening drive, with several big pickups, which was pretty realistic of Atlanta’s not so hot run defense.

Out of the gate I was down 7-0, but I pulled within striking distance 10-3 before the half. I was behind the whole game until the final 53 seconds when I managed a 4 yard Ryan to Tony G. TD pass to go up 17-13. What a game! Fun stuffs for sure!

A couple of items of note. First, the injuries were frequent, but not game breaking. Farve actually went out for most of the game, until late in the 4th qtr. I like the way the players are sometimes only injured for a little while and are able to make it back into the game.

This year Madden is actually a fun pick up and play game. I have not started a franchise; just playing the “play now” mode and using the Falcons against various teams.

For what it is worth, I have purposely avoided all the glitz, cheats, bugs, etc threads on the various forums. If the gameplay experience sucks because of stupid occurrences and money plays, I know next to nothing about them, so in this case, ignorance is complete blitz.

This really is the best version of Madden in recent memory. To put it to the test, when was the last time I actually bothered to write about a Madden game?

Understanding me gaming limits.

When Little Big Planet (LBP) was announced, I was immediately enthusiastic about the game, and put it on my “purchase” list. However, I was smart enough to recognize the true reality of my current gaming situation – I just do not have enough time to put this type of game in my library. It will end up collecting dust. Been there and done that.

Last week the PlayStation Blog announced the Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition. It looks like it is full of goodies and extras and whatnots, but I still face the same problem – not having enough time to add LBP to my gaming mix.

I have written about this more and more lately; these days I am a much more discerning gamer when making my gaming purchases. I not only consider price, current time available for gaming, and potential longevity of the game.

For price, there is a big difference between play $59.99 or $29.99 for a Greatest Hits title or a game that has been discounted. I am much more willing to try something different at a lower price point than I am at full MSRP. Recent examples include Ferrari Challenge ($17.99) and Ratchet and Clank TOD ($29.99). I wanted both of these games, but unlike Madden 10, I was not willing to pay full price. I would like a soccer game, but I am not willing to pay $49.99 for FIFA 09 when I know that a new version is only a couple of months away.

I also consider how much time I have available for gaming. At this point in my life my gaming time ebbs and flows with the seasons and various activities. Fall is upon us so Falcons games are coming up, the weather is better for shooting my Beeman R collection, and of course the kids have various sporting activities. In short, I will probably not pick up many games between now and Christmas because I know I just will not have time to play them to their fullest potential regardless of their purchase price.

Finally, when evaluating a game purchase I consider the longevity of a game. I do not mind paying $59.99 for a game if I know that I will play it for 18 (or more months). Take Oblivion for example; that game has so much replay value that I doubt I will ever find time to complete it fully. The exceptions to this rule are sports games – I usually try to sell them on eBay after 6-9 months to attempt to get $30 or so to “reinvest” in the next annual installment.

So back to LBP. It has longevity going for it, but I now deep down inside that I just do not have time to dedicate to this type of game, which is too bad because I am still interested in the game. Maybe one day.

Know your Madden.

The ajc posted an article about Vick and Favre being added to Madden 10 via roster updates, but for me the more interesting part of the article was this gem.

A survey performed for EA by the University of Oregon’s Sports Marketing Center found that “Madden NFL” players were considerably more knowledgeable about the sport than other fans. For example, 67 percent of “Madden” players could correctly identify specific passing routes, compared with 48 percent of non-gamers.

Interesting. I wonder how many Madden players expect jukes and other special moves?

Slow news Monday returns.

Except for a glut (and I mean a serious run) of PS3 price cut and PS3 slim rumors, there is just not all that much going on today.

So far I have enjoyed my brief time with Madden 10. Two important points. First, the game is improved over last year. Second, the sliders do appear to work and provide noticeable differences when tweaked. At least when I upped the penalty sliders, I started getting more penalties called. This is still a work in progress, and it is much too soon to call a final review score (as if I did those any more).

I have stayed away from Madden message boards, sites, and searches. If there is something glaring that has been found, for now I want to be clueless. I think it is better that way.

I ordered Madden 10 for the Wii for my son’s b-day. I am not expecting any major enhancements, but the kids like Madden, so they should be happy.
