Beeman R7 Back in Action

Saturday, March 1st, 2008 at 11:47 am

After a long stretch of not getting any time to shoot, last Sunday (and hopefully today) I was able to get out the R7 for some plinking action. This is an incredible gun – light weight, easy to shoot, very quiet, and extremely accurate. I cannot imagine a more perfect backyard gun.
Let’s roll […]

Airgun Category

Sunday, January 27th, 2008 at 9:40 am

I am surprised with the number of hits, searches, and referrals I get for airgun info, so a couple of weeks ago I added a new airgun category to allow those of you coming to the site for airgun info to quickly find airgun posts.
I also moved up the Category section on the left nav […]

Crosman Discovery? Do I really need this airgun?

Sunday, January 27th, 2008 at 9:33 am

Crosman is introducing an entry level PCP called the Crosman Discover. It comes in .177 and .22 flavors, with or without a pump, and will allow for CO2 or compressed air. Sounds interesting.
I love my Beeman R7, but would like something with a little more pop to take out those pesky squirrels. […]

Crosman Sierra Pro Update

Monday, January 21st, 2008 at 4:31 pm

I received my gun back from Crosman today, which is a nice three week turn around.  The repair order said “new screws and loctite” so I guess the original screws were lose or stripped out.  Maybe it is that 1000 fps working the action lose from the stock.
Crosman was also kind enough to include a […]

Beeman R7 .177 Review

Saturday, January 12th, 2008 at 11:29 am

After responding to a post on the “Yellow Forum” I realized that I had not written much about my Beeman R7. Here is my attempt at a review.
The R7 is perfect for the backyard. It is quiet, it is unbelievably accurate, and extremely easy too shot. It probably does […]

Gamo Sampler Pellets

Sunday, January 6th, 2008 at 5:47 am

Yesterday at Dick’s Sporting Goods I picked up a sampler pack of Gamo pellets for $8.99. [linked to Pyramyd Air’s site because DSG does not show this set online]
The set contains 4 tins of 250 pellets:

Magnum (8.3 grains)
Hunter (8.4 grains)
Master Point (7.8 grains)
Match (7.6 grains)

I shot a few rounds of each type of pellet […]

Crosman Sierra Pro goes under the knife.

Saturday, December 29th, 2007 at 6:42 am

I contacted the fine folks at Crosman about the strange happenings with my Sierra Pro.
Quick Recap: After a day of shooting (60-80) rounds, I put the gun away for a couple of hours, and when I went to use the gun again, it would not cock. After repeated failure getting the gun to […]

Crosman Sierra Pro dies.

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007 at 8:39 pm

I planned to write about some shooting that I did earlier today, complete with best pellets per group, highest and lowest scoring group, and standard deviation per group. Instead I am writing a somewhat disappointing entry. My Crosman Sierra Pro bit the dust today.
After getting really comfortable with the sights on the gun, […]

Crosman displays great customer service.

Monday, December 17th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

Right before Thanksgiving I wrote that I sent the scope that came with my Sierra Pro back to Crosman for warranty repairs (or exchange). The new scope arrived a little over a week ago.
Our story begins with me sending a customer service email to Crosman asking about my scope. A nice lady (Kim) […]

The one that got away, and the one that didn’t.

Saturday, December 15th, 2007 at 2:27 pm

Last weekend, to reward myself for hard day of working in the yard, I sampled a couple of cold ones (Georgia Brown and a High Life), and decided to take some target practice. I was on the hunt looking to eliminate a pest or two from the backyard. Some call in cruel, mean […]

Pellets aplenty (part 2 of 2)

Friday, December 14th, 2007 at 11:08 pm

The Crosman lead free pellets were a great idea, but poorly implemented due to their super low weight. Maybe I am being a little harsh, but I do not think these things are going to work well in any decently powered air rifle. I should have realized something was up by the warning […]

Pellets aplenty (part 1 of 2)

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 at 12:01 am

When I purchased my Crosman Sierra Pro (from now on CSP or Sierra Pro) I also picked up a tin of Crosman .177 Field Hunting Pointed pellets (7.9 gr), which worked well enough, but I got the bright idea that all that lead in my backyard was not such a good idea. I ordered […]

Too much to blog about …

Friday, December 7th, 2007 at 11:23 pm

It has been a while since I bothered to update this blog. I am surprised that anyone is still reading, but here we are and so I write.
I have decided I like some good old fashion country music, which plays into my most recent UK trip, but I am getting ahead of myself. […]

Crosman Sierra Pro 1000 (round three)

Saturday, November 17th, 2007 at 2:08 pm

I have had a pretty hit or miss experience with my Crosman Sierra Pro 1000. I really enjoy plinking and shooting at varmint targets, and of course, squirrels, which is the reason I got this airgun in the first place. I have been frustrated with the gun’s accuracy, exchanging my first Sierra Pro, […]

Crosman Sierra Pro 1000 (round two)

Sunday, September 16th, 2007 at 8:18 pm

Earlier this week I took my Sierra Pro back to Wal-Mart for an exchange. I had read that maybe there were some quality control issues around this air rifle. The lady behind the returns counter was not going to let me exchange the Crosman; something to do with a no gun exchange policy. […]
